esign. Cook. Transform.
Blank Plate Project is a creative culinary “design/cook” program, begun in Hunts Point, South Bronx that sparks community development through a combination of design-led imaginative activities and chef-led demonstrations for weekly community dinners, or culminating in a community event.
By learning through a design sensibility, applied personal experiences, and industry-relevant culinary skills, students develop the creative capital, neighborhood stewardship, and food justice advocacy skills necessary for their own success and for the future of their community.
Over the course of each Blank Plate workshop, students learn creative culinary skills and plan a final dinner event of their own imagination. Blank Plate is a different kind of cooking class. Together, we design, cook, and transform.
We rolled up our sleeves and started cooking today! We had three different groups of students each learning how to properly cook and freestyle a recipe made with one of the following starches: potatoes, rice, and pasta Each of which are a historically a huge success among dinner guests at No Beef weekly events.Read More
Blank Plate refers to tabula rasa, or “blank slate,” the theory of knowledge coming from experience and perception. In the context of healthy food access and cultural celebration, our name suggests that we can reimagine our relationship to food by activating our own senses, stories, and spaces. Think of it as a blank canvas for creating our food future!
Blank Plate is a program housed at The Point (CDC) which is a 501c3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible. Each year, a significant portion of our funding comes from individual donors like you, whose contributions go directly to our project costs. Your support pays for things like design materials for Blank Plate, kitchen tools, kitchen equipment, food and our team’s stipends for their work. We are grateful for your ongoing support! There are three ways to make a tax-deductible contribution to Blank Plate.
